  • The long and tiring road…

Billing clients is good. Billing clients makes me money. However, I was not cut out for 50+ hour weeks. Not with a cold, for sure. Perhaps I’m a whiner, but this week has me nearly beaten.

    mon: 11.5 hours
    Tues: 10 hours
    Wed: 10.5 hours
    thurs: 11 hours

And now it’s friday and I’m dead. Well, I have a 3 days weekend ahead of me.

At least I’m still young–not like greg or di…;)

Mine is TIRED (or at least I’m assuming it is–I haven’t counted). Tired again. Katie was up at 5 coughing again and again and again. I feel like a zombie.

So, mine is TIRED. what’s yours?

  • Lately

I think there is some sort of mind control program at work in Diablo II because all I’ve wanted to do for the past month or so is play. It helps that I can play with my friends, of course, but it’s just a total kick. But more than that, after what have been extremely long days at work, then home dealing with kids and wife and home, it’s easily the most relaxing and enjoyable thing I have of late. Totally consuming, which is a great way to let everything else go for a bit.

To the very lovely woman that I keep pushing off in favor of this mindless addiction, I am sorry. I do still care.

  • Where I’ve been!

    Where I’ve been!
    Thanks to Di for this:

I’ve been to 49% of the country, but in a pretty connected manner. Notice florida? I’ve never driven there, but I’ve been there a million times. it’s obvious what’s happened. I drove in one stright corridor (a number of times), and I’ve flown to a couple of areas (also a number of times), but that’s it.

create your own visited states map
or write about it on the open travel guide

But if you think that’s incomplete, look at where I’ve been to in the world!

I’ve never been to Djibouti or Burundi! I must get out more.

  • Superbowl Snackies

I’m making this for the superbowl, as per NY Times (free account required to view):

    Boston Baked Beans

    Looks yummy. Thank you, Bostonites!

  • cop shows

The lovely and talented Gregory pointed me to a new show last night called Keen Eddie.I watched a full episode, which wasn’t bad. But here’s my problem with it: It’s been done. Again and again.

Plot summary in a very reductionist nutshell:

cop, transfered to London for some reason. Maybe he was bad (in which case he should have been sent to the Bronx) or very good (in which case he would have stayed and been made lieutenant or something). Maybe he was just being very British and they had to do something with him. In any case…

Cop, in strange situation, with wacky partner (this one’s a sexaholic), and beautiful roommate who hates him (although she really loves him). They fight crime! They make schtick! They drink pints!

The writing seems good, but it’s hard to get past the fact that it’s been SO done. See, that’s why I like Monk. Putting a good cop in England is not quite that wacky. Put him in Bejing, and that might be interesting…But on Monk, the good cop is crazy as a bedbug and so much of the show focusses on how he can get around that handicap that it’s very creative. At least, it’s creative between that and other shows. I’m finding that it’s getting a bit stale because there are only so many times you can have him wipe off his hands before it’s not that funny.

    Am I a bitter crank??

  • I’m OK, You’re OK

I wake this morning to find out that, while I was sleeping, my eldest daughter came down with a stomach virus. She apparently threw up this morning (Kim let me sleep as she was up already), but she’s staying home from school. So I call down to her (she’s on the couch, in front of the TV, of course…):

    “honey, are you OK?”

“yes!” she answers loudly and cheerfully, followed by “Well, I’m a little OK. Not all the way OK.”

*Rolls eyes* My daughter is already playing the system

  • Goofy Kids

So I’m sitting at my desk, and katie, my 3 year old, is playing with her leap pad, which is a computer-book that reads you stories and you can interact with a stylus. Katie has been begging for this book called “scooby doo and the case of the disappearing doughnuts”. So she got it the other day and she’s “reading”/listening to the book. I turn around to see her and she’s got her hands over her ears. Now, realize that she can’t read herself, so she’s ONLY listening, and looking at the pictures. So I ask her “why do you have your hands over your ears?”

    “monster!”, she says.

    But..but…I sputter. Forget it.

So as some people cover their eyes at a scary movie, she’s covering her EARS at the scary parts of her book.

    Too much.

  • Been awhile

I wish I had more to say. I keep forgetting cute kids stuff I want to post and instead end up posting that I’m feeling blah. Looking out the window, facing a monday of a long week, tired already, and seeing it snowing and grey. Feeling blah. Yep.

  • run down

God, I feel so tired. I keep meaning to get to bed early, and it keeps not happening. This morning, I heard Kim’s “alarm” go off, which is a soft light and tweeting birds. For her, it’s a relaxing way to wake up, for me, it’s a 45 minute long Hitchcock adventure. She was sound asleep, so I didn’t want to wake her to turn it off, but it means about 45 minutes less sleep than I would have gotten on this end, plus I went to bed about 90 minutes later than I meant to. You can add.

Tonight, early to bed, late to rise. Or someone’s gonna pay.
